How Does Body Sculpting Work?

by | Feb 17, 2023 | Advice, Treatments

Are you looking for a quick and straightforward way to achieve a toned appearance? Body sculpting can be an effective way to gain confidence in your figure. Discover what the procedure entails and whether it’s a suitable cosmetic treatment for you and your body.

What is body sculpting?

Body sculpting (also known as body contouring or body shaping), is a cosmetic procedure that involves removing or reducing fat from certain parts of the body to create a more toned and defined appearance. Most people undergo body sculpting to target areas such as the abdomen, arms, thighs, hips, and buttocks.

Types of body sculpting treatments

There are several types of body sculpting procedures available. Some involve surgery, while others don’t. So, when deciding which type of treatment is most suitable for your body and desired results, it’s worth bearing in mind that more invasive procedures will require more recovery time.

Some common forms of body sculpting include:

  • Liposuction — a surgical procedure that involves making small incisions in the skin and using a tube known as a cannula to remove excess fat from the targeted areas.
  • Laser-assisted liposuction — this technique uses a laser to liquefy fat cells, which are then suctioned out of the body using a cannula. It’s similar to traditional liposuction but is somewhat less invasive.
  • CoolSculpting —  a non-surgical procedure that uses controlled cooling to freeze and eliminate fat cells.

At the Dr Nestor Cosmetic Clinic, however, we use truSculpt®. This form of body sculpting is known as radiofrequency lipolysis. Similar to CoolSculpting, this technique is non-invasive. However, it uses radiofrequency (RF) energy, rather than controlled cooling, to therapeutically heat fat cells until they pass through the body naturally. The result? Fat reduction and a more toned appearance.

Both CoolSculpting and truSculpt® are non-surgical, meaning you won’t need any anaesthetic.

What happens during a truSculpt® body sculpting procedure?

If you opt for truSculpt®, your cosmetic practitioner will use a handheld device to target your chosen body area — this could be your abdomen, for example. The device will deliver radiofrequency energy to the underlying fat cells, causing them to heat up and eventually die off, so your body eliminates them.

Often, people who undergo this form of body sculpting procedure compare the sensation to that of a hot stone massage — it’s generally considered painless but may cause some mild discomfort.

Depending on the area you wish to target, a truSculpt® session usually lasts for between 15 minutes and an hour, and you will be able to resume your usual daily activities right away. In many cases, you’ll see some results immediately but will usually need a few sessions to achieve your desired results fully.

Are there any side effects?

As with any cosmetic procedure, some side effects are possible. During your truSculpt® body sculpting procedure, the handheld device adjusts the temperature to heat the targeted area without damaging or burning the skin. However, you may experience some mild swelling, redness, or tenderness in the treated area. These symptoms should subside within a few hours or days.

Is body sculpting right for me?

There are a variety of reasons you might be considering body sculpting. For example, it can help you feel more confident in your appearance by supporting your physique. If you’ve undergone significant weight loss and have excess pockets of skin, this treatment can help even things out.

However, as with any cosmetic treatment, it’s essential to think carefully before going ahead with a body sculpting procedure. Always discuss any medical history or concerns with a qualified healthcare provider and remember — body sculpting isn’t a form of weight loss. While it reduces fat in certain areas of the body, you need to maintain a healthy diet and lifestyle in order to get the best results.

truBody — comprehensive body sculpting treatments from Dr Nestor

If you’re looking for a fast and effective non-surgical body sculpting procedure, Dr Nestor can help. We offer truBody, an innovative package that combines truSculpt® iD body sculpting with truSculpt® flex — a muscle-building treatment that replicates intensified crunch, squat and twisting actions to tone and sculpt. An excellent choice for both men and women, truBody is a comprehensive sculpting technique that both reduces fat and increases muscle.

We can treat multiple areas of the body at once, making it a quicker treatment than traditional liposuction procedures. It’s also versatile — we can customise your cosmetic treatments to help you get the best results for your body, fitness level, and lifestyle.
