If you want to give your skin a kickstart, try Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) therapy. Designed to combat signs of ageing such as hyperpigmentation, this non-invasive therapy gives fantastic results on different skin types. So, what is IPL treatment and how does it work?
What is IPL treatment?
IPL therapy uses light energy to target areas of hyperpigmentation on your face. It’s a non-invasive treatment that can be used to treat sun damage (photoaging), age spots or uneven skin tone. IPL treatment is also effective at removing unwanted hair anywhere on the body.
How does IPL treatment work?
Unlike a laser that utilises one wavelength, IPL employs several wavelengths that penetrate the dermis without negatively affecting the epidermis.
The targeted pigmented lesions absorb the light energy, converting it to heat energy. In the process, the pigment is destroyed.
The therapy results in enhanced skin tone resulting in a healthier complexion and younger-looking skin.
What does IPL do for my skin?
Before you have your first IPL treatment, your Dr Nestor’s skincare professional will assess your skin. You’ll be given protective eye shields to wear throughout the treatment session.
The clinic uses the M22 IPL system, which is one of the most advanced technologies available. Your treatment will last between 10-30 minutes. A handheld device will be passed gently over your skin during that time, allowing the pulses of light to penetrate the dermis.
This treatment works best on pale to light brown skin. It may not be suitable if you have keloid scar tissue, use a retinoid cream or have skin conditions including acne or eczema. Before your treatment, let your skin care professional know if you’re taking any medications or if you’re pregnant.
How long do the effects last?
Directly after your treatment, you could experience some redness. The pigmentation will darken and then begin to disappear after 7-10 days. Combined with the correct ZO Skin Care products, the results can last indefinitely. In general, an initial course of 4 treatments, followed by top-up treatments every 6-12 months, is recommended.
Everyone deserves beautiful skin. A combination of IPL treatment and the right advanced ZO Skin Care System will correct and protect the skin you’ve always wanted.
